At the same time, Italy (+11.7%), the Netherlands (+9.6%), Azerbaijan (+6.8%), Germany (+2.3%) and Georgia (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +11.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of Italy (+6.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-7.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest shelled hazelnut supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 63% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 17% share of global exports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 5.3% share.

In Turkey, shelled hazelnut exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+14.5% per year) and Azerbaijan (+10.1% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +25.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, Canada, Poland, Switzerland, Brazil, the Netherlands, China, Belgium and Spain, which together accounted for a further 25%.

China, with a CAGR of +31.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
