In value terms, tomato puree exports surged to $X in 2020. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.
Exports by Country
The UK (X tonnes) was the main destination for tomato puree exports from Portugal, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, tomato puree exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Spain (X tonnes), with a X% share.

Italy recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% year-to-year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2019, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, tomato puree imports declined significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2020, Spain (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of tomato puree to Portugal, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, tomato puree imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tonnes), sixfold. Italy (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
