In 2021, overseas shipments of tomato juice were finally on the rise to reach X tonnes after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tomato juice exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tonnes), Angola (X tonnes) and Cabo Verde (X tonnes) were the main destinations of tomato juice exports from Portugal, with a combined X% share of total exports. The United States, Saint Maarten (Dutch part), Japan, French Polynesia and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Japan (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for tomato juice exported from Portugal were China ($X), the United States ($X) and Angola ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Cabo Verde, Saint Maarten (Dutch part), French Polynesia, Switzerland and Japan, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Japan, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average tomato juice export price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was French Polynesia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Portugal
In 2021, overseas purchases of tomato juice decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tomato juice imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tonnes) was the main tomato juice supplier to Portugal, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, tomato juice imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tonnes), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at +X%.
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tomato juice to Portugal, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain totaled +X%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average tomato juice import price amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while the price for Germany stood at $X per tonne.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+X%).
