Angola (X tonnes) was the main destination for pepper exports from Portugal, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pepper exports to Angola exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tonnes), fourfold. France (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Angola totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-X% per year) and France (+X% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked in 2018 and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

In general, the total imports indicated a strong increase from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Spain (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Viet Nam (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of pepper imports to Portugal, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Cambodia, the Netherlands and the U.S., which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
