Microwave Oven Market Size in Portugal

In 2020, the Portuguese microwave oven market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, the total consumption indicated a slight expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, consumption increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. In value terms, microwave oven production fell to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Spain (X units) was the main destination for microwave oven exports from Portugal, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, microwave oven exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X units), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the United Arab Emirates (X units), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Spain was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+X% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the key foreign market for microwave oven exports from Portugal, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Spain amounted to -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average microwave oven export price stood at $X per unit in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Microwave Oven Imports

Imports into Portugal

For the third consecutive year, Portugal recorded growth in purchases abroad of microwave ovens, which increased by X% to X units in 2020. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, microwave oven imports expanded markedly to $X in 2020. Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2020, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of microwave oven to Portugal, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, microwave oven imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X units), fourfold. Malaysia (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).
