Non-Alloy Steel H-Sections Market Size in Portugal

The Portuguese non-alloy steel h-sections market was estimated at $X in 2020, almost unchanged from the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth of the market failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, shipments abroad of h-sections of of non-alloy steel increased by X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-alloy steel h-sections exports fell markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X tonnes) was the main destination for non-alloy steel h-sections exports from Portugal, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, non-alloy steel h-sections exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Colombia (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Spain (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burkina Faso amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (X% per year) and Spain (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for non-alloy steel h-sections exported from Portugal were Burkina Faso ($X), Colombia ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. France, Angola, Luxembourg and Gabon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Gabon recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average non-alloy steel h-sections export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, declining by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Luxembourg ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Portugal

In 2020, imports of h-sections of of non-alloy steel into Portugal expanded significantly to X tonnes, surging by X% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2009 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-alloy steel h-sections imports contracted modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Spain (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of non-alloy steel h-sections to Portugal, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, non-alloy steel h-sections imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tonnes), ninefold. Italy (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+X% per year) and Italy (-X% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-alloy steel h-sections to Portugal, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-X% per year) and the UK (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average non-alloy steel h-sections import price amounted to $X per tonne, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were Luxembourg ($X per tonne) and Italy ($X per tonne), while the price for the UK ($X per tonne) and Spain ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
