Carbon Electrode Market Size in Portugal

In 2020, the Portuguese carbon electrode market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, carbon electrode exports reduced markedly to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2011 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Norway (X tonnes) was the main destination for carbon electrode exports from Portugal, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, carbon electrode exports to Norway exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tonnes), threefold. Angola (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Norway was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+X% per year) and Angola (-X% per year).

In value terms, Norway ($X), Spain ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest markets for carbon electrode exported from Portugal worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Angola, Mozambique and Cabo Verde, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Mozambique (+X% per year) saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average carbon electrode export price amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2019, and then plummeted in the following year.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, purchases abroad of carbon electrodes decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbon electrode imports fell notably to $X in 2020. Overall, imports posted a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. from 2019 to 2020, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Spain (X tonnes) constituted the largest carbon electrode supplier to Portugal, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, carbon electrode imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tonnes), fourfold.
