Butter Market Size in Portugal

The revenue of the butter market in Portugal amounted to $X in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. The Netherlands (X tonnes), Spain (X tonnes) and France (X tonnes) were the main destinations of butter exports from Portugal, with a combined X% share of total exports. Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Angola and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Saudi Arabia, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, butter export price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices for butter reached their maximum in 2018 and is expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the countries with the highest prices were France ($X per tonne) and Morocco ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per tonne) and Spain ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

In 2018, the amount of butter imported into Portugal amounted to X tonnes, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, butter imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, butter imports reached their peak of X tonnes. From 2010 to 2018, the growth of butter imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, butter imports totaled $X in 2018. In general, butter imports continue to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Spain (X tonnes) constituted the largest butter supplier to Portugal, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, butter imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Belgium (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and Belgium (+X% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of butter to Portugal, comprising X% of total butter imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a X% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the price for Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
