Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tonnes), Spain (X tonnes) and France (X tonnes) were the main destinations of blueberry and cranberry exports from Portugal, with a combined X% share of total exports. The UK, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Switzerland (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the largest markets for blueberry and cranberry exported from Portugal worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average blueberry and cranberry export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were France ($X per tonne) and Belgium ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per tonne) and the UK ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Portugal
In 2021, approx. X tonnes of blueberries and cranberries were imported into Portugal; picking up by X% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tonnes) constituted the largest blueberry and cranberry supplier to Portugal, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, blueberry and cranberry imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tonnes), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain was relatively modest.
