The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium alloy tube exports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain (X tons) was the main destination for aluminium alloy tube exports from Portugal, with a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, aluminium alloy tube exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Morocco (X tons), with a 7.1% share.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of aluminium alloy tubes and pipes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium alloy tube imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
