In 2021, the Polish photographic paper market increased by 69% to $X, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption recorded buoyant growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports from Poland
After four years of growth, shipments abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles decreased by -14.1% to X square meters in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 40%. The exports peaked at X square meters in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, photographic paper exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 131% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic (X square meters), Germany (X square meters) and Slovakia (X square meters) were the main destinations of photographic paper exports from Poland, with a combined 79% share of total exports. Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +260.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Ukraine ($X) were the largest markets for photographic paper exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined 71% share of total exports. Slovakia, Moldova, Austria and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
Austria, with a CAGR of +267.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average photographic paper export price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, declining by -11% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 65%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2019 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Photographic Paper Imports
Imports into Poland
For the fifth year in a row, Poland recorded growth in purchases abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, which increased by 98% to X square meters in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, photographic paper imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -4.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters) and China (X square meters) were the main suppliers of photographic paper imports to Poland, with a combined 99% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Germany (with a CAGR of +44.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest photographic paper suppliers to Poland were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 97% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +28.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average photographic paper import price amounted to $X per square meter, falling by -46.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 9.5% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per square meter), while the price for Germany ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
