Canned Mushroom Market Size in Poland

In 2022, the Polish canned mushroom market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned mushroom production rose to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Canned Mushroom Exports

Exports from Poland

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of canned mushrooms, when their volume decreased by -11.2% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, canned mushroom exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +118.3% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for canned mushroom exports from Poland, with a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, canned mushroom exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled +8.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+62.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+1.7% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for canned mushrooms exports from Poland, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +6.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+63.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+1.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average canned mushroom export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild decline. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of canned mushrooms, when their volume decreased by -33.1% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 199%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, canned mushroom imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 175% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned mushroom imports to Poland, together comprising 80% of total imports. France, China and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +92.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest canned mushroom suppliers to Poland, with a combined 85% share of total imports. France, China and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

Among the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +64.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average canned mushroom import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 59%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
