Canned Food Market Size in Poland

For the fourth consecutive year, the Polish canned food market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2019. In general, consumption, however, showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Canned food consumption peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Canned Food Production in Poland

In value terms, canned food production amounted to $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. Overall, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Poland

For the thirteenth consecutive year, Poland recorded growth in overseas shipments of canned food, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2019. Overall, exports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure in 2019 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, canned food exports reduced to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The UK (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and the Netherlands (X tonnes) were the main destinations of canned food exports from Poland, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Russia, Italy, the U.S., Sweden, Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania and Denmark, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Italy, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for canned food exported from Poland worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, the U.S., Denmark, Russia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania and Romania, which together accounted for a further X saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2019, the average canned food export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned food imports into Poland reached X tonnes in 2019, picking up by X% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2007 to 2019: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2013 indices. Hungary, Thailand, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Greece, the UK and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2019, the average canned food import price amounted to $X per tonne, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2019, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per tonne), while the price for Belgium ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
