In 2021, supplies from abroad of asparagus decreased by -1.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after eight years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 84%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, asparagus imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 138% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of asparagus imports to Poland, together accounting for 74% of total imports. Italy, Belgium and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

In general, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, asparagus import price increased by +82.9% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 36% against the previous year.
