Apple Market Size in Poland

The Polish apple market surged to $X in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to apple production reached the peak figure at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Poland

In 2020, apple exports from Poland contracted sharply to X tonnes, waning by -X% on the previous year. Overall, exports, however, recorded temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apple exports dropped to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Egypt (X tonnes) were the main destinations of apple exports from Poland, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Egypt (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belarus ($X), Egypt ($X) and Romania ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for apple exported from Poland worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Egypt (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of apples was finally on the rise to reach X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apple imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. Imports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, the Netherlands (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of apple to Poland, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, apple imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tonnes), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Italy (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+X% per year) and Italy (-X% per year).
