Moreover, laptop and tablet computer exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Singapore (X units), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates amounted to -17.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-49.2% per year) and Singapore (-44.6% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for laptop and tablet computer exported from the Philippines worldwide, together comprising 56% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, China, the United States, Hong Kong SAR and Germany, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +25.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Export Prices by Country
The average laptop and tablet computer export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 125%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+32.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of laptops and palm-top computers increased by 26% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, laptop and tablet computer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest laptop and tablet computer supplier to the Philippines, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, laptop and tablet computer imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X units), threefold. Malaysia (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.2% share.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of laptops and palm-top computers to the Philippines, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +20.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+25.2% per year) and Malaysia (+1.9% per year).
