Exports from the Philippines

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of dolomite, when their volume decreased by -75.7% to X tons. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 2,216% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, dolomite exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 2,411% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) was the main destination for dolomite exports from the Philippines, accounting for a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, dolomite exports to Taiwan (Chinese) exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Taiwan (Chinese) was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+222.6% per year) and Japan (-14.3% per year).

In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) remains the key foreign market for dolomite exports from the Philippines, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to +2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+130.9% per year) and Japan (-10.2% per year).

The average dolomite export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($X per ton) and Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Philippines

Dolomite imports into the Philippines declined dramatically to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -81.8% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a sharp descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 2,091%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a precipitous descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 1,634% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main dolomite supplier to the Philippines, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, dolomite imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +3.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (0.0% per year) and Thailand (-42.2% per year).
