After two years of growth, the Philippine market for anise, badian, fennel and coriander decreased by -X% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. In 2021, overseas shipments of anise, badian, fennel and coriander increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the fifth consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tonnes) was the main destination for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports from the Philippines, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tonnes), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (X% per year) and Spain (X% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exported from the Philippines were the United States ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $X per tonne in 2021, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a tangible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2016 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Anise, Badian, Fennel And Coriander
Imports into the Philippines
After two years of growth, overseas purchases of anise, badian, fennel and coriander decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
India (X tonnes), China (X tonnes) and Singapore (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports to the Philippines, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Italy and Spain, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Italy (+X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest anise, badian, fennel and coriander suppliers to the Philippines were China ($X), India ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, Spain and Italy, which together accounted for a further X the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $X per tonne in 2021, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per tonne), while the price for Italy ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
