Wood Charcoal Market Size in Peru

The Peruvian wood charcoal market rose remarkably to $X in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, faced a deep reduction. Wood Charcoal Exports

Exports from Peru

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of wood charcoal decreased by -29.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 133%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood charcoal exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 189% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Israel (X tons) was the main destination for wood charcoal exports from Peru, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, wood charcoal exports to Israel exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Chile (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Israel was relatively modest.

In value terms, Israel ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the largest markets for wood charcoal exported from Peru worldwide.

Chile, with a CAGR of +12.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The average wood charcoal export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 75% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wood charcoal export price increased by +86.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+37.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Peru

In 2021, wood charcoal imports into Peru soared to X tons, with an increase of 360% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports enjoyed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 611%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, wood charcoal imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 1,039%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Bolivia (X tons) constituted the largest wood charcoal supplier to Peru, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Bolivia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Venezuela (X tons), twofold. Argentina (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bolivia stood at -3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Venezuela (0.0% per year) and Argentina (+11.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest wood charcoal suppliers to Peru were Bolivia ($X), Venezuela ($X) and Argentina ($X), with a combined 66% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil and China, which together accounted for a further 9.2%.

In terms of the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +37.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average wood charcoal import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -44.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 60%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
