Sunflower Seed Market Size in Peru

In 2020, the Peruvian sunflower seed market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, showed a remarkable increase. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, sunflower seed exports shrank sharply to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Slovenia (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of sunflower seed exports from Peru.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovenia.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for sunflower seed exports from Peru, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Slovenia ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +X%.

In 2020, the average sunflower seed export price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep downturn. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Slovenia amounted to $X per tonne.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany.

Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In 2020, Argentina (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of sunflower seed to Peru, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, sunflower seed imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bulgaria (X tonnes), ninefold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Argentina amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (+X% per year) and China (+X% per year).
