Canned Vegetable Market Size in Peru

In 2022, the Peruvian canned vegetable market increased by 4.2% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption enjoyed a remarkable increase. Canned vegetable consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned vegetable exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 7%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for canned vegetable exports from Peru, with a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, canned vegetable exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), twofold. Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (-1.5% per year) and Brazil (+5.8% per year).

In 2022, the amount of canned vegetables imported into Peru contracted markedly to X tons, reducing by -56.3% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 207%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined sharply in the following year.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 142%. China (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned vegetable imports to Peru, with a combined 55% share of total imports. The United States, Italy, Turkey and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +106.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
