For the third consecutive year, Pakistan recorded decline in shipments abroad of raw hides and skins of cattle, which decreased by -94.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports showed a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a sharp reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 93%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for cattle hide and skin exports from Pakistan, with a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, cattle hide and skin exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X kg), fivefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hong Kong SAR stood at -37.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-53.8% per year) and the United States (-37.1% per year).

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), the United States ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for cattle hide and skin exported from Pakistan worldwide.

Among the main countries of destination, the United States, with a CAGR of -30.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average cattle hide and skin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -13% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 59%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+434.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of raw hides and skins of cattle, when their volume increased by 50% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
