Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, manuka exports declined significantly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, showed tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Qatar (X tonnes) was the main destination for manuka exports from Pakistan, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, manuka exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the U.S. (X tonnes), fourfold. Malaysia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the U.S. (+X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for manuka exported from Pakistan were Qatar ($X), the U.S. ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Qatar (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average manuka export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the U.S., while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, overseas purchases of manuka decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the third year in a row after eight years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, manuka imports fell slightly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. from 2018 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Germany (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of manuka to Pakistan, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, manuka imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Saudi Arabia (X tonnes), fourfold. Egypt (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
