After three years of growth, overseas shipments of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes decreased by -0.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +97.2% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, citrus fruit preserves exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +64.4% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 73%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of citrus fruit preserves exports from Pakistan, together accounting for 60% of total exports. These countries were followed by Canada, Mauritius, Germany, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Norway, Australia, Belgium and Afghanistan, which together accounted for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +99.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for citrus fruit preserves exported from Pakistan were the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 64% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, Norway, Australia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Germany, Belgium and Afghanistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
Among the main countries of destination, Sri Lanka, with a CAGR of +94.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average citrus fruit preserves export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+22.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, the amount of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes imported into Pakistan surged to X tons, jumping by 162% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 806%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruit preserves imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 968% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of citrus fruit preserves to Pakistan, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, citrus fruit preserves imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates totaled +19.3%.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of citrus fruit preserves to Pakistan, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United Arab Emirates stood at +21.4%.
Import Prices by Country
The average citrus fruit preserves import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -16.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 55%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for France amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.4%).
