In 2021, the amount of bed linen exported from Pakistan surged to X tons, jumping by 35% on 2020. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, bed linen exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +43.0% against 2014 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of bed linen exports from Pakistan, with a combined 51% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France, Australia, Poland, Denmark and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for bed linen exported from Pakistan were the United States ($X), the UK ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 51% share of total exports. Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, Poland, Denmark and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +27.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average bed linen export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Bed Linen Imports
Imports into Pakistan
In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of bed linen, when their volume increased by 48% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 90%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bed linen imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 99%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest bed linen supplier to Pakistan, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, bed linen imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to -5.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+19.7% per year) and the United States (+9.2% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bed linen to Pakistan, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 17% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -5.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+16.0% per year) and the United States (+7.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average bed linen import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -16.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 31%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
