Palm Kernel Market Size in Norway

In 2020, the Norwegian palm kernel market increased by X% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In value terms, palm kernel exports dropped significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Sweden (X tonnes) was the main destination for palm kernel exports from Norway, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, palm kernel exports to Sweden exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X kg), fivefold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Sweden stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+X% per year) and Iceland (-X% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Iceland ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for palm kernel exported from Norway worldwide.

Denmark recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average palm kernel export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Iceland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iceland, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Norway

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of palm kernels were imported into Norway; increasing by X% on 2019. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. from 2014 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, palm kernel imports surged to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern.
