Ghee Market Size in Norway

After three years of growth, the Norwegian ghee market decreased by -X% to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2018, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

For the sixth consecutive year, Norway recorded decline in overseas shipments of ghee, which decreased by -X% to X kg in 2019. Overall, exports, however, saw moderate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X kg. From 2010 to 2019, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ghee exports dropped to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2010 to 2019, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Italy (X kg) was the main destination for ghee exports from Norway, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, ghee exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X kg), threefold. Sweden (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+X% per year) and Sweden (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for ghee exported from Norway were Italy ($X), Sweden ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. Denmark and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2019, the average ghee export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway

In 2019, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of ghee, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, ghee imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Belgium (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of ghee imports to Norway, together accounting for X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Belgium, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest ghee suppliers to Norway were Belgium ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Belgium (+X% per year) saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, import prices failed to regain the momentum.
