The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of maize (green). At the same time, Canada (+10.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Canada emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Northern America, with a CAGR of +10.6% from 2012-2021. While the share of Canada (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United States (-3.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the largest maize supplier in Northern America, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, maize imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +68.1% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The United States was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 78% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Canada (X tons), generating a 22% share of total imports.
The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the maize (green) imports, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012 to 2021. Canada experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The United States (+8.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Canada saw its share reduced by -8.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported maize (green) in Northern America, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 33% share of total imports.
