In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of cassava, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Overall, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, cassava exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of cassava, namely the United States, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

The United States was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cassava exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X) also remains the largest cassava supplier in Northern America.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cassava imports shrank to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United States dominates cassava imports structure, accounting for X tonnes, which was near X% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Canada (X tonnes), mixing up a X% share of total imports.

The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of cassava. At the same time, Canada (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Canada emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Northern America, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. While the share of Canada (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the United States (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
