Asparagus Market Size in Nigeria

Imports into Nigeria

Asparagus imports into Nigeria amounted to X tonnes in 2018, increasing by X% against the previous year. Overall, asparagus imports, however, continue to indicate an abrupt reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, asparagus imports attained their maximum at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, asparagus imports totaled $X in 2018. In general, asparagus imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked in 2018 and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2018, the Netherlands (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of asparagus to Nigeria, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, asparagus imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Peru (X kg), sevenfold. South Africa (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

Import Prices by Country

The average asparagus import price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price indicated a strong expansion from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, asparagus import price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
