In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 165%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

India (X tons), French Polynesia (X tons) and Samoa (X tons) were the main destinations of polyethylene glycol and polyether exports from New Zealand, with a combined 76% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Samoa (with a CAGR of +204.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for polyethylene glycol and polyether exported from New Zealand were French Polynesia ($X), Samoa ($X) and Fiji ($X), together accounting for 69% of total exports.
Samoa, with a CAGR of +183.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average polyethylene glycol and polyether export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Samoa ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of polyethylene glycol and polyether to New Zealand, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Thailand totaled +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+5.7% per year) and the United States (-8.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest polyethylene glycol and polyether suppliers to New Zealand were Thailand ($X), China ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, Australia, South Korea and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 26%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Singapore, with a CAGR of +5.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average polyethylene glycol and polyether import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
