Unmanufactured Tobacco Market Size in the Netherlands

In 2020, the Dutch unmanufactured tobacco market was finally on the rise to reach $X after four years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep downturn. Unmanufactured tobacco consumption peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Switzerland (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of unmanufactured tobacco exports from the Netherlands, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Belgium, Hungary and Russia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Switzerland ($X) remains the key foreign market for unmanufactured tobacco exports from the Netherlands, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Switzerland stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and Poland (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average unmanufactured tobacco export price amounted to $X per tonne, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated temperate growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, unmanufactured tobacco export price decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Unmanufactured tobacco imports into the Netherlands shrank to X tonnes in 2020, dropping by -X% against the year before. In general, imports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports fell notably to $X in 2020. Overall, imports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2015 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per tonne), while the price for Mozambique ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malawi, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
