Glass Fibre Mat Exports

Exports from the Netherlands

In 2022, approx. X tons of glass fibre mats were exported from the Netherlands; reducing by -11.5% on the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre mat exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +30.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibre mat exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibre mat exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belgium amounted to +9.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-2.2% per year) and Turkey (+32.7% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of glass fibre mats increased by 16% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre mat imports reduced to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. France (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fibre mat imports to the Netherlands, together accounting for 57% of total imports.
