Belgium (X tonnes) was the main destination for buckwheat exports from the Netherlands, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, buckwheat exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tonnes), twofold. The UK (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belgium amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-X% per year) and the UK (+X% per year).
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for buckwheat exports from the Netherlands, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by France ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Belgium totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average buckwheat export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of buckwheat increased by X% to X tonnes in 2021. In general, imports posted pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2019 to 2021, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, buckwheat imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tonnes), Lithuania (X tonnes) and Russia (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of buckwheat imports to the Netherlands, with a combined X% share of total imports. Germany, China and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belgium (+X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest buckwheat suppliers to the Netherlands were Lithuania ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Russia and Belgium, which together accounted for a further X, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average buckwheat import price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, buckwheat import price increased by +X% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for Russia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
