In 2021, overseas purchases of blankets and travelling rugs of synthetic fibres decreased by -50.9% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, saw modest growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, travelling rugs of synthetic fibre imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) was the main supplier of travelling rugs of synthetic fibre to Myanmar, with a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, travelling rugs of synthetic fibre imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X units), more than tenfold.
