The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 189%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wood pellets exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 211%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the main destinations of wood pellets exports from Morocco.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Qatar (with a CAGR of +98.2%).
In value terms, Qatar ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the largest markets for wood pellets exported from Morocco worldwide.
Among the main countries of destination, Qatar, with a CAGR of +54.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wood pellets export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 100%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Wood Pellets Imports
Imports into Morocco
In 2021, supplies from abroad of wood pellets decreased by -73.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a temperate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 6,071%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood pellets imports fell rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 2,914% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wood pellets to Morocco, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, wood pellets imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), sevenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +36.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-16.9% per year) and Belgium (+10.4% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood pellets to Morocco, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-16.1% per year) and Belgium (-3.4% per year).

The average wood pellets import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 74%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
