Grape Market Size in Morocco

For the fourth year in a row, the Moroccan grape market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, the total consumption indicated a tangible expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, consumption increased by +X% against 2016 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In general, the total production indicated pronounced growth from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, production increased by +X% against 2016 indices. As a result, production reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The average yield of grapes in Morocco rose slightly to X tonnes per ha in 2020, with an increase of X% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield indicated moderate growth from 2007 to 2020: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, grape yield increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average grape yield hit record highs in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2020, the total area harvested in terms of grapes production in Morocco reduced to X ha, approximately reflecting 2019 figures. Over the period under review, the harvested area showed a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The grape harvested area peaked at X ha in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, shipments abroad of grapes increased by X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2015, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, total exports indicated modest growth from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, grape exports soared to $X in 2020. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Exports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Spain (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of grape exports from Morocco, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Spain, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for grape exported from Morocco worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Senegal ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Morocco

Grape imports into Morocco declined sharply to X tonnes in 2020, waning by -X% against the year before. In general, imports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, grape imports reduced to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Peru (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Chile (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of grape imports to Morocco, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, the U.S., South Africa and Egypt, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in France, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest grape suppliers to Morocco were Peru ($X), Italy ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.
