Exports in the Middle East

In 2023, exports of woven fabrics of cotton in the Middle East reduced to X square meters, shrinking by X% against 2022 figures. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton fabric exports declined to $X in 2023. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X square meters, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. The following exporters - Bahrain (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.

Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of woven fabrics of cotton. Bahrain (X%) and the United Arab Emirates (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest cotton fabric supplier in the Middle East, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In 2023, overseas purchases of woven fabrics of cotton decreased by X% to X square meters, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cotton fabric imports declined to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2023, Turkey (X square meters) represented the major importer of woven fabrics of cotton, making up X% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X square meters) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (X%) and Jordan (X%). Lebanon (X square meters), Iraq (X square meters), Yemen (X square meters) and Israel (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Turkey decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Yemen (X%), Iraq (X%), Jordan (X%) and Lebanon (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Yemen emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. The United Arab Emirates and Iran experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Israel (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and Iran increased by X, X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Jordan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together comprising X% of total imports.

Jordan, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per square meter in 2023, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter), while Iran ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
