The average tomato yield totaled X tons per ha in 2022, almost unchanged from the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The tomato harvested area shrank to X ha in 2022, which is down by X% on 2021. In general, the harvested area continues to indicate a perceptible descent. Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, shipments abroad of tomatoes decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, tomato exports fell to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Iran was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. Turkey (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Syrian Arab Republic (X%). Jordan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
