Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, exports of shelled hazelnuts in the Middle East surged to X tons, growing by 30% compared with 2020 figures. Total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, shelled hazelnut exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +39.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The biggest shipments were from Turkey (X tons), together finishing at 99% of total export.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the shelled hazelnuts exports, with a CAGR of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) also remains the largest shelled hazelnut supplier in the Middle East.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +2.3%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -9.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 45%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Turkey.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Turkey amounted to -0.2% per year.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, overseas purchases of shelled hazelnuts increased by 64% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, shelled hazelnut imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main importers of shelled hazelnuts in 2021, resulting at near 27% and 24% of total imports, respectively. Israel (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Jordan (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +20.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest shelled hazelnut importing markets in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 66% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +15.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -10.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Turkey ($X per ton) and Israel ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Iran ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
