Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, quilted textile products imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 41%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the largest importer of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery), making up 45% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by Jordan (12%), Iraq (6.1%) and Iran (4.9%). The following importers - Lebanon (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) - together made up 6.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to quilted textile products imports into Turkey stood at +9.4%. At the same time, Lebanon (+28.6%), Jordan (+15.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+4.3%) and Iran (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +28.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Yemen (-11.4%) and Iraq (-22.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+31 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.), Jordan (+9.9 p.p.), Lebanon (+3.4 p.p.) and Iran (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Yemen and Iraq saw its share reduced by -3.2% and -36.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest quilted textile products importing markets in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Jordan ($X), together accounting for 84% of total imports. These countries were followed by Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Iran, which together accounted for a further 11%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Lebanon, with a CAGR of +38.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, quilted textile products import price increased by +41.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
