Exports in the Middle East

In 2022, approx. X tons of porphyry, basalt and quartzites were exported in the Middle East; increasing by X% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, porphyry, basalt and quartzites exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), mixing up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to porphyry, basalt and quartzites exports from Turkey stood at X%. At the same time, Jordan (X%) and Syrian Arab Republic (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Iran (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Syrian Arab Republic (X p.p.) and Jordan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. In 2022, overseas purchases of porphyry, basalt and quartzites increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, porphyry, basalt and quartzites imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Yemen ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Yemen, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, porphyry, basalt and quartzites import price increased by X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by X%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
