Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kuwait (-4.9%) and Qatar (-99.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia increased by +1.9 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. Kuwait (-2.5 p.p.) saw their shares reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 44%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
