The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 58%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 68%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Saudi Arabia dominates forms structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Iran (X tons). All these countries together held near 22% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+5.6%) and Iran (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kuwait (-4.9%) and Qatar (-99.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia increased by +1.9 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. Kuwait (-2.5 p.p.) saw their shares reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X supplier in the Middle East, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iran ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 9.8% share.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Middle East recorded growth in purchases abroad of polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms, which increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 44%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly 78% of total imports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Jordan (2.9%), Saudi Arabia (4%) and Israel (4.4%). Oman (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Israel (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms imports into Turkey and the United Arab Emirates stood at +12.0% and -3.2%, respectively. At the same time, Yemen (+11.6%), Oman (+3.8%) and Israel (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-3.2%), Saudi Arabia (-3.5%), Lebanon (-4.2%), Jordan (-4.9%) and Syrian Arab Republic (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+30 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syrian Arab Republic and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -2%, -3.1%, -3.3%, -3.6% and -15.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms in the Middle East, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +12.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-3.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-3.7% per year).
