Exports in the Middle East
For the fourth year in a row, the Middle East recorded growth in overseas shipments of mixed fertilizers, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, mixed fertilizer exports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the key exporter of mixed fertilizers, creating X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), generating an X% share of total exports. Israel (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Saudi Arabia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mixed fertilizers exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Jordan (X%), Turkey (X%) and Israel (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Saudi Arabia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Turkey (X p.p.) and Israel (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest mixed fertilizer supplier in the Middle East, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Saudi Arabia amounted to X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (X% per year) and Israel (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mixed Fertilizer Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, supplies from abroad of mixed fertilizers increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mixed fertilizer imports soared to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Turkey was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), generating a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Iran (X tons), Israel (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.
Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of mixed fertilizers. At the same time, Iraq (X%), Syrian Arab Republic (X%), the United Arab Emirates (X%) and Israel (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Iran (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Iraq (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (X p.p.) and Turkey (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
