Leek Exports
Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, approx. X tons of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables were exported in the Middle East; waning by X% against 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, leek exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Lebanon (X tons), Iran (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to leek exports from Turkey stood at X%. At the same time, Lebanon (X%), the United Arab Emirates (X%) and Iran (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Lebanon (X p.p.), Iran (X p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest leek supplier in the Middle East, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lebanon ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lebanon (X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, purchases abroad of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables was finally on the rise to reach X tons after six years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, leek imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Qatar (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented roughly X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), committing a X% share of total imports. Yemen (X tons), Oman (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, the largest leek importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Kuwait, Oman, Yemen and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
