In the United Arab Emirates, ethylene exports shrank by an average annual rate of -8.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-20.2% per year) and Turkey (+18.9% per year).

Ethylene imports soared to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 68% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 585% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Qatar represented the key importer of ethylene in the Middle East, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 78% of total imports in 2021. Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ethylene imports, with a CAGR of +20.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+12.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. In Qatar, ethylene imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-17.7% per year) and Oman (+9.0% per year).

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 31% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
