Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the doors and their frames and thresholds of wood exports, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -11.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the export price saw a perceptible contraction. In 2021, purchases abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood increased by 12% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wooden door imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Iraq was the major importing country with an import of around X units, which finished at 37% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Israel (14%), Kuwait (7.9%) and Oman (7.1%). Qatar (X units) and Turkey (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest wooden door importing markets in the Middle East were Iraq ($X), Qatar ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. Israel, Kuwait, Oman and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +14.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
