Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, overseas purchases of chestnuts decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chestnut imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports by Country
The purchases of the five major importers of chestnuts, namely Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Kuwait (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Turkey (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports.
