Exports in the Middle East

For the fifth consecutive year, the Middle East recorded decline in shipments abroad of bananas and plantains, which decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, banana and plantain exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Lebanon (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) were the key exporters of bananas and plantains in 2022, reaching near X% and X% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together constituting a X% share of total exports.
