Exports in MENA
In 2022, sugar crop exports in MENA fell to X tons, waning by X% on 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sugar crop exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Morocco (X tons), distantly followed by Lebanon (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) represented the main exporters of sugar crops, together generating X% of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total exports.

For the fourth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in purchases abroad of sugar crops, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sugar crop imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Morocco represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. Algeria (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Oman (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Egypt (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports.
Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sugar crops imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022.
